Vocal Pop / Contemporary Camp

Get ready to shine this summer! Voice in the Valley (VIV) is excited to offer our Contemporary Vocal Camp in partnership with the Maple Valley Creative Arts Center, happening June 22–26. Designed for developing stars ages 8–16, this high-energy camp invites singers to explore both solo and ensemble performance in today’s most popular contemporary styles.
Campers will learn fun, choreographed numbers while building essential vocal skills like belting, vocal control, mic control, emotional exploration, and effective performance techniques. Performers will also build healthy pop vocal technique, explore their artistic identity, learn how to choose repertoire that reflects who they are, and collaborate in a supportive, inspiring space. The experience blends vocal work, music-making, and real conversations about artistry, and ends with a showcase-style performance designed to help performers practice putting themselves out there with confidence.
Camp Schedule:
• Monday–Thursday: 9:00am–2:00pm
• Friday Dress Rehearsal: 4:00pm
• Friday Showcase Performance: 6:00pm
The camp is directed by Maple Valley native Maddi Fickel. Maddi is a Seattle-based artist who has grown up performing and training in both classical and musical theatre singing and has continued her professional career in musical theatre in both Arizona and Washington State. Growing up, Maddi was heavily involved in singing competitions, earning 1st place awards and competing at the national level through NATS and Solo & Ensemble competitions. She also trained extensively through Village Theatre’s intensive programs.
Some of her favorite roles include Laurey in Oklahoma!, Liesl in The Sound of Music, and Molly in Ghost the Musical. Alongside performing, Maddi has taught private voice lessons and audition workshops for many years and has served as music director for several local theatre programs, including Tahoma Drama Program and Village Theatre Kidstage. As a teaching artist and director, she is passionate about helping young performers grow in singing, vocal technique, storytelling, and confidence on stage.

Musical Theatre / Disney Camp
July 20–24 • Ages 8–18
Voice in the Valley’s Disney Musical Theatre Camp invites young performers to step into the exciting world of musical theatre while bringing beloved Disney songs and stories to life. Throughout the week, campers will explore the fundamentals of stage performance including acting, character development, storytelling, staging, choreography, blocking, and ensemble singing in a fun, encouraging, and highly creative environment. Whether students are seasoned performers or stepping on stage for the very first time, the camp is designed to help every child grow in confidence, creativity, and self-expression.
More than just a performance camp, this experience focuses on developing the whole performer. Campers will build healthy performance habits while learning important life skills such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, teamwork, resilience, and distress tolerance in age-appropriate and supportive ways. Through music, movement, games, and collaboration, students are encouraged to take creative risks, support one another, and discover the joy of belonging to an artistic community. The atmosphere is uplifting, supportive, and centered on creating a safe space where students feel seen, valued, and inspired.
The camp is directed by Voice in the Valley’s very own Emily Reed, a beloved multi-instrumentalist and experienced music educator with nearly 20 years of teaching experience. Emily studied Music Education and Vocal Performance at George Fox University and has performed with numerous ensembles including the Seattle Symphony Chorale and Portland’s Singing Christmas Tree. In addition to her extensive teaching background, Emily serves as a music director and board member with From Page to Stage Productions and has a passion for inspiring young performers through creativity, encouragement, and joyful music-making.
Campers will spend the week learning exciting musical numbers, participating in theatre activities and rehearsals, and preparing for a magical showcase performance to share with family and friends. Along the way, they will strengthen vocal skills, stage presence, projection, confidence, and ensemble awareness while making meaningful friendships and unforgettable memories.
The camp is held daily at the Maple Valley Creative Arts Center from 9am-2pm Monday through Thursday. On Friday, campers will return for a 4pm dress rehearsal before taking the stage for a special final showcase performance at 6pm that is open to family, friends, and the public. From laughter-filled rehearsals to magical moments on stage, Disney Musical Theatre Camp is an unforgettable summer experience for young performers who love to sing, act, dance, and dream big!

Songwriting & Sound Recording Camps
July 13–16 & August 3–6
Get ready to unleash your creativity at our 5th Annual Songwriting & Sound Recording Camp! A high-energy, hands-on music experience for aspiring artists ages 10 and up, no matter your skill level! Whether you’re writing your very first song or already building your own catalog, this camp is designed to inspire, challenge, and ignite your musical voice.
Over four unforgettable days, campers will dive headfirst into the art of songwriting and studio recording, working side-by-side with our experienced mentor, Mars Licciardi. You’ll craft meaningful lyrics, explore melody and harmony, experiment with beat-making, and learn the fundamentals of vocal recording, mixing, and production—all while collaborating with fellow music lovers in a fun, supportive environment.
The excitement reaches its peak on the final day, when campers take everything they’ve learned into a real, professional recording environment at Black Dog Recording Studio in Black Diamond. There, students will experience what it’s truly like to record in a live studio—working with high-end equipment, learning studio etiquette, and bringing their original songs to life in an authentic, industry-style session. It’s an unforgettable behind-the-scenes look at the recording process and a confidence-boosting moment they’ll never forget.
This isn’t just a camp—it’s a creative launchpad. Expect new friendships, major “aha” moments, and the thrill of hearing your own music come alive. Whether it’s your first song or your fiftieth, this is your chance to create boldly, learn deeply, and have an absolute blast doing it! The camp is held 9-12pm Monday through Wednesday at Voice in the Valley Music School. On Thursday our budding song-writers meet at Black Dog Recording Studio in Black Diamond.
